The second trailer for the upcoming film adaptation of the popular anime "Puella Magi Madoka Magica," "Puella Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Walpurgis no Kaiten," was released on YouTube on December 21st. The footage uses cuts and lines from the film, and features characters such as Kaname Madoka and Akemi Homura. The final episode of "Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Beginning/The Eternal Story TV Edition," a TV series re-editing the two films, was broadcast on the same day, and new information about the new film was announced.
" Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Walpurgis no Kaiten" is the "legitimate sequel" to " Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion," which was released in October 2013. This will be the first new theatrical version of the series in about 12 years. The staff, including general director Akiyuki Shinbo and screenwriter Gen Urobuchi, will reunite. It is scheduled to be released in February 2026.
"Puella Magi Madoka Magica" is an original anime that depicts magical girls burdened with harsh destinies, and was broadcast as a TV anime in 2011. It was directed by Shinbo and produced by Shaft. It brought together a stellar staff, including Ume Aoki as the original character designer, Urobuchi as the scriptwriter, and Yuki Kajiura as the composer. Although the visuals are heartwarming, the profound world setting and dramatic developments gained popularity.
Theatrical versions of the TV series, "Part 1: The Beginning Story" and "Part 2: The Eternal Story," were released in 2012. "Part 3: Rebellion," released in 2013, became the first late-night anime film to surpass 2 billion yen in box office revenue. The first season of the TV anime "Magia Record : Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story," based on a smartphone game, aired from January to March 2020, the second season from August to September 2021, and the "Final Season" in April 2022.
