It was announced on January 30th that playwright Ryuta Horai's play "Shining Women," starring actress Yuriko Yoshitaka, will be broadcast and streamed on WOWOW in April. The final performance of the play will be held in Aichi on the same day.
"Shining Women" is an ensemble drama in which Horai, who has resonated with many audiences by carefully uncovering the human conflicts and contradictions hidden in everyday life while weaving humor into his sharp perspective, highlights the light and darkness of women who find life difficult in the age of social media. Yoshitaka, who plays the lead role, has long aspired to appear in a Horai production. "The appeal of Horai's works is that they force you to confront both the good parts of yourself and the parts of yourself you dislike," she says. Yoshitaka sensitively portrays a life-sized woman shaken by discrepancies in her memories with her teammates, wondering what is true and what she did wrong.
Sato Honami plays the best friend, Sakurai Hinako plays the junior, Yamaguchi Sayaka plays the futsal club advisor, and the cast also includes a unique cast including Onodera Zuru, Hasegawa Nagi, Lee Sojin, and Namura Tatsu.
While working as a member of society, Kaneda Kai (Yoshitaka) has a habit of sneaking into farewell parties for others, eating at the buffet, and then going home. One day, while sneaking into the venue, Kaneda happens to come across some familiar faces. They are teammates from the women's futsal club she was captain of in her university days. She even sees her best friend Yamagata Keiko (Sato) and her rival advisor Kawagoe Mizuki (Yamaguchi). In the funeral portrait, she sees her junior, Shirasawa Kimi (Sakurai), who used to play on the same pitch. "Why wasn't I invited?"... The story intertwines the present and her glorious university days...
