It has been revealed that the ending theme for the second chapter of the popular Gundam anime series, Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash (directed by Murase Shukou), titled Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash: The Witch of Circe, will be the song "Sweet Child O'Mine" by the American rock band Guns N' Roses. The song is included on Guns N' Roses' first album, Appetite for Destruction, released in 1987, and was released as a single in 1988, becoming a huge hit, reaching number one on the US charts.
In 2019, the music video surpassed one billion views on YouTube, becoming the first song from the 1980s to achieve this feat. As of 2026, it has been viewed approximately 2.1 billion times, demonstrating its enduring popularity. The lyrics, which express complex feelings toward "her," are a mixture of tenderness and sadness, and overlap with the emotions Hathaway feels upon meeting Gigi, making it a fitting ending for the story of "Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway." A special music video featuring the song is scheduled to be released on February 2nd.
"Circe's Witch" is also attracting attention because its opening theme is "Snooze" by American R&B artist SZA.
"Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway" is based on a novel published in 1989-90 by director Yoshiyuki Tomino, known as the creator of the "Gundam" series. Set in the year 0105 of the Universal Century, Hathaway, the son of Bright Noa, who experienced a bitter separation during the Second Neo Zeon War, pilots a new mobile suit, the Xi Gundam, and rises up in rebellion against the Earth Federation government.
It has been announced that the anime will be made up of three chapters, with the first chapter, released in June 2021, being a hit, grossing approximately 2.23 billion yen at the box office. The second chapter, "Circe's Witch," will be directed by Murase Shukou, who has also directed "Genocidal Organ," and will feature voice actors such as Ono Kensho as Hathaway, Ueda Reina as Gigi Andalusia, Suwabe Junichi as Kenneth Sleg, and Saito Soma as Lane Aim. It was released on January 30th.
