It was revealed on September 23rd that a completely new movie based on the original anime "Girls Band Cry" by Toei Animation will be produced. In an interview, Toei Animation producer Masashi Hirayama, who worked on the film, said about the new movie, "We want to try new things."
The TV anime series aired from April to June 2024 and was a hit, with the first volume of Blu-ray discs and DVDs selling over 23,000 copies. As producer Hirayama said, "It's being embraced globally, especially in this age of streaming," it has gained many fans not only in Japan but overseas. When the TV anime was being planned, there were no plans for a new movie, but due to its success, it was decided to produce one.
A teaser visual for the new film, featuring the main character Isekiri Nina, has also been released. Nina is depicted in the same pose as in the visual released when the project was announced in April 2023, but she is wearing the costume from the song "Unmei no Hana" that appears in episode 13 of the TV anime. The story of the new film has not been announced, but producer Hirayama said, "I hope you can imagine it from this visual." Details such as the release date will be announced in the future.
"Girls Band Cry" follows the main character, Isekiri Nina, who dropped out of high school and moved to Tokyo, forming the band "Togenashi Togeari" with Kawaraki Momoka, Yasuwa Subaru, Ebitsuka Satoshi, and Rupa, and growing through music. It is attracting attention as a new girls' band anime that links the band formed by the main characters in the story with a real band.
The two-part theatrical compilation film, "Part 1: Youth Rhapsody," which re-edits the TV anime and adds new scenes, will be released on October 3rd, and "Part 2: Hey, Mirai" will be released on November 14th.
