TV Tokyo will broadcast a special program titled "Ancient Civilization Mystery: Takeshi's New Encyclopedia of the Seven Wonders of the World, Volume 13: The Grand Egyptian Museum's World's First Exclusive Filming Special!!" from 4:00 PM on January 2, 2026. This is the 13th installment of the annual year-end and New Year special, in which Beat Takeshi serves as "editor-in-chief" and introduces the world's mysterious civilizations, hidden treasures, and buildings.
This issue focuses on the Grand Egyptian Museum, which opened in November of this year. After many years of negotiations, the world's media was given permission to film inside the museum for the first time, and cameras were able to enter the museum's main attraction, the Tutankhamun Gallery, and other areas.
Actor Kenta Kiritani will be reporting from the site. When he comes face to face with the newly exhibited "Golden Mask" of Tutankhamun, he is taken aback by its mystique. He is also overwhelmed by the 5,000 burial goods excavated from King Tutankhamun's tomb. He will also have special access to the "Underground Room," an area of the tomb that is not open to the general public.
Beat Takeshi commented, "Even though 7,000 or 8,000 years have passed, we still haven't been able to understand human wisdom or anything like that. On the other hand, I get the feeling that the people who built the pyramids, unlike us, were able to communicate very well with the universe and its creatures, and must have learned a lot from them. After all, it's almost impossible to create anything exactly like that now."
After finishing the recording, Kiritani said, "It was fun! Takeshi's perspective, and the behind-the-scenes stories that probably 80% of it won't be used. But he's really knowledgeable and knows so much, so it was a luxury just listening to him." She also appealed, "I think the appeal of this program is that you can pursue the mystery together. Be sure to watch!"
Dan Rei, who acted as an observer in the studio, said, "Takeshi knows a lot of information about ancient Egypt, and listening to his stories I was able to learn about the deep mysteries of Egypt, as well as learn about Takeshi's vast knowledge. It was a really fun time. I really wanted to go to Egypt, visit that museum, and experience the treasures buried in the pyramids up close. It was a very interesting time."
The program will be broadcast on TV Tokyo, TV Osaka, TV Aichi, TV Setouchi, TV Hokkaido, and TVQ Kyushu Broadcasting from 4:00 pm to 5:45 pm on January 2nd. It will also be available to watch on TVer.
