Actors Yuki Amami and Fumiyo Kohinata appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), which aired on December 25th. They talked about Amami's life on the set of the drama "Emergency Interrogation Room," as well as their memories of Ren Osugi, who previously appeared in the drama and passed away suddenly seven years ago.
Kohinata said of Amami, "He's neither a man nor a woman. He's like Joan of Arc or Sasaki Kojiro with a sword stuck here (in his back). He's a bundle of justice," and described him as "he always felt like an older brother. A beautiful older brother." In response, Amami said, "The older men (who co-starred with him in the drama) were a bit spoiled," and "I don't mind them being spoiled," before sharing an episode from the filming of the drama.
There was a tea room on the set, and when the cast members were talking there, they were told "please come inside", but they were so busy talking that they didn't go inside. So Amami said to them firmly, "If you go in quickly, it will be over quickly", "Let's go", "Let's do it". Kohinata described the scene as "like taking a whip and smacking them. Like a lion tamer".
Amami, who plays the lead role in the drama, has a large amount of lines and filming has already finished, and Kohinata said, "When I met her today for the first time in a while, her face looked different (from when we were filming). She looked liberated." Amami added with a wry smile, "I come to the set in the morning thinking I have to be on my toes, so I look really grim in the morning."
Regarding Osugi, who passed away seven years ago, Amami said, "It feels like he's always been there (on set)." Kohinata recalled that when he went to see Amami's play, Osugi was there, too, and after the show, the two of them had wine together while it was still light outside, talking about the play and Amami.
Amami expressed her gratitude, saying, "I'm grateful for this," and reflected on Osugi, saying, "He's just been away from the scene for a while, so I think he's probably still working hard somewhere. Even in Emergency Interrogation Room, the character (played by Osugi) is set to have left the police force for a while."
