Actor Seishiro Kato will play the vocalist of a visual kei rock band in McDonald's Japan's new TV commercial, "CheeChe Double Cheese/Teriyaki 'LUNA CHEE' Edition," which will begin airing on August 19th. He plays the vocalist of LUNA CHEE, an officially recognized cover band of the visual kei rock band LUNA SEA, and conveys the appeal of the product in a worldview that is just like the original music video.
The sale coincides with the two-week limited sale of three "Cheese" products from August 20th to September 2nd: the "Cheese Cheese Double Cheeseburger," which adds two slices of white cheddar cheese to the regular menu's "Double Cheeseburger," the "Cheese Cheese Teriyaki Mac Burger," which adds white cheddar cheese and cheddar cheese to the "Teriyaki Mac Burger," and the "Cheese Cheese Double Cheese Sausage Muffin," which is only available at Breakfast McDonald's.
Kato passionately conveys his wavering feelings about being unable to choose between "CheeChee Double Cheeseburger" and "CheeChee Teriyaki" through a parody of LUNA SEA's signature song "ROSIER," with lyrics that are related to the "CheeChee" products. The song is sung by Tamtam, a talent and impersonator whose singing ability is recognized even by LUNA SEA's vocalist, RYUICHI.
Kato completely transformed into the original, not only in costume but also in hairstyle and makeup. He watched the music video repeatedly before filming, and on the day of the shoot he performed multiple takes, checking each and every movement in the mirror. Kato commented that "it's so different from my previous image," but in the end he finished filming with a fresh feeling, like "maybe this me could do it, including my movements" (laughs).
