Canadian actor Ryan Gosling, who has appeared in films such as "La La Land" (2016), made a surprise appearance at "Star Wars Celebration Japan 2025," a festival for fans of the sci-fi film "Star Wars," held at Makuhari Messe (Mihama-ku, Chiba City) on April 18.
Gosling appeared on stage after it was announced that he will star in the new Star Wars film, "Starfighter," scheduled for release in 2020.
Onstage, Gosling showed a slide showing photos of the bedsheets he used when he was five years old, featuring Star Wars characters, and said, "I was dreaming about Star Wars long before I saw Star Wars."
According to the production team, "Starfighter" will be a "standalone adventure story," and filming will begin this fall. It is scheduled to be released in the United States on May 28, 2027.
"Star Wars Celebration" is a large-scale fan event that was first held in the United States in 1999 and has since been held 15 times in the UK, Germany, Japan, etc. This will be the second time it is held in Japan in 17 years.
