The fourth installment of the popular anime "Evangelion" series revival screening project, "Monthly Eva EVANGELION 30th MOVIE Fest. 2025-2026," "Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance," began screening on December 12th, and it has been revealed that it grossed 92.38 million yen and attracted over 58,000 viewers over the three days. In the weekend audience rankings for December 12th-14th (according to Kogyo Tsushinsha), it ranked 7th despite only being shown in 89 theaters. This is an unusual achievement for a film that was released in 2009, some 16 years ago, to make it into the top 10.
Following on from the third installment, the fourth installment saw "audience-friendly screenings" held in three locations: Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka. At the beginning, Miyamura Yuko's comments looking back on that time were played, which elicited thunderous applause. As with the previous installments, there was much cheering in support of the protagonist, Shinji, and many comments aimed at his father, Gendo, who makes harsh remarks, bringing the venue together.
"Monthly Evangelion" will screen one film per month (two films in October) for one week each month from October through February 2026. "Neon Genesis Evangelion Evangelion: 1.0 You Can (Not) Redo" will be screened from October 10-16, "Neon Genesis Evangelion Air/The End of Evangelion" from October 24-30, "Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone" from November 14-20, "Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance" from December 12-18, "Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo" from Getsuku, 2026, and "Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time" from February 13-19.
The first film, "Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death and Rebirth," grossed 200 million yen and attracted over 120,000 viewers. The second film, "Neon Genesis Evangelion Air: The End of Evangelion," grossed 220 million yen and attracted over 140,000 viewers, both of which were very successful.
