To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the serialization of Osamu Akimoto's popular manga "Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Koen-mae Hashutsujo (Kochikame)" this September, a new function called "Kochikame All Panel Search" has been implemented on the official website "Kochikame Online." This unprecedented function allows users to search and display manga panels using dialogue and related keywords, and currently includes data from volumes 1 to 100 of the comics. The number of volumes included will be increased in the future, and eventually all volumes will be included in the database. Users can search for hilarious panels, touching scenes, and even panels that seem to predict the future of the real world. Users can also post and share their favorite panels on social media.
It was also announced that a brand new, original one-shot manga will be published in issue 36 of "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha), which goes on sale August 3rd. This will be the first new one-shot in about a year, since issue 38, which went on sale August 18, 2025. The story will feature Kankichi Ryotsu becoming interested in a lucrative business opportunity in 2026. Issue 36 will also include a special insert titled "My Best 'Kochikame' Episodes Selected by Weekly Shonen Jump Serialized Authors!!" This will feature recommended episodes of "Kochikame" selected by "Jump" serialized authors, including Eiichiro Oda of "ONE PIECE" fame. The episodes recommended by the authors will be available for free on Shueisha's online bookstore "Zebrack" until August 31st.
It was also announced that volume 202 of the manga will be released on September 4th, and volume 203 on October 2nd. These volumes will include one-shot stories and other material that was published after the series ended in "Weekly Shonen Jump."
"Kochikame" is a gag manga set in the downtown area of Tokyo, depicting the antics of Ryotsu Kankichi, a police officer with extraordinary physical strength and a warm heart. It began serialization in "Weekly Shonen Jump" in 1976 and ran for approximately 40 years until 2016. The cumulative circulation of the comic books exceeds 150 million copies. It has also been adapted into anime, live-action films, stage plays, and video games. The production of a new anime, "Shin Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Koen-mae Hashutsujo," is also generating buzz.
