The 59th episode of the NHK morning drama series " Kaze,Kaoru " (NHK General, Monday-Saturday 8:00 AM, etc.), starring Ai Mikami and Juri Kosaka, aired on June 18th, and with that episode, Burns (Asadora Howard) "exits" the story, causing widespread "loss" among viewers.
On graduation day, Rin (Mikami), Naomi (Uesaka), Tae (Ikuta Erika), and the other members of the first graduating class of the nursing school received their diplomas, but they were troubled by the absence of Burns. Jumping to the conclusion that Burns had already returned to his home country, Rin and the others ran out of the classroom without listening to what Principal Kajiwara (Ise Shima) had to say.
Then, Burns was making apple pie with Yuki (Tomomi Nakai), who had left the company. Burns said, "I wanted to let you all eat apple pie one last time today," and congratulated them on their graduation.
The apple pie, which they tasted for the first time, was exquisite, and they all sang the Scottish folk song "Auld Lang Syne" in English, reluctant to say goodbye. Afterwards, Burns and the graduates took a photo together, but Burns invited Yuki to join them, and they took another group photo with all eight of them.
Then Burns left Japan, and Rin and Naomi flipped through a book Burns had left behind, titled "NOTES ON NURSING." Inside was a handwritten message that read, "What is nursing? The one being questioned is myself." Rin said, "So, Dr. Burns was a nurse after all," and Naomi murmured, "Yeah, just like us," as they pondered the words Burns had left behind.
It was also revealed that Burns had been secretly working to persuade Sutematsu ( Mikako Tabe), Katsu Kaishu (Tsurutaro Kataoka), and Chikako (Yukie Nakama) to speak with the hospital director so that the trainees could work at Teito Medical University Hospital after graduation.
