It has been revealed that the arcade game "Paradox of Stars and Wings" (Square Enix), for which Yoshiyuki Sadamoto , known for the character designs of the " Evangelion " anime series, is being made into an animated feature film, "AS ONE," which will be released in the summer of 2025. The film will be directed by Kobun Shizuno, known for the animated feature film " Detective Conan : Crimson Love Letter," and will have a completely original story set 20 years before the original. Sadamoto will be in charge of character design, and all of the characters will be revamped.
"Paradox of Stars and Wings" began operation in 2018. It is an action game in which players control robots and fight against each other on a battlefield in far-flung space where "fights" are fought over the energy contained within the stars. The world setting and animation were handled by Sunrise, the mechanics were designed by Kaname Ippei of "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans" and Ishigaki Junya of "Xenogears", and the theme song was written by Kanno Yoko and Kodama Amako, bringing together a star-studded staff.
The movie anime will have a completely original story that Director Shizuno came up with the idea for and wrote together with the screenwriter, in response to Square Enix's request that "if you're going to make a movie, don't be limited by the game's content, make something interesting." An image board was released that depicts the encounter between the main character Yoh and Lako, who lives on a planet far away in space. Image boards depicting robots and concept art were also released.
Director Shizuno commented, "This work is a prequel to the epic story of the original, and the story will be deeply immersive for fans who were enthusiastic at the game arcades, as well as those who are completely unfamiliar with the original. The story centers on the melody played by the main character (You). When his singing voice reaches the cruiser across time and space, many mysteries that were not mentioned in the original will be revealed. The "secret of Realide," the "secret story behind the birth of Aerial," and the "profound relationship between the cruiser and the Earth"... The generation that encountered the original at the game arcade will be moved by the coexistence of nostalgia and new discoveries, and the generation that is not familiar with the original will be able to sense the beginning of an epic story. Immerse yourself in the music played by the main characters and experience this epic story that transcends time and space at the theater."
Sadamoto said, "This will be my first time participating in a theatrical production in a long time. This will be the first time I've worked with a director, and we're trying many new things, so I think it will be an exciting production in every aspect. I hope everyone will look forward to it."
