It has been announced that the latest DC Universe movie, "Supergirl" (directed by Craig Gillespie), will be released in Japan in the summer of 2026. The film's teaser visual and trailer have been released.
This summer, "Supergirl," the next chapter of "Superman" (2025), is set to be released. As with "Superman," the film will be produced by DC Studios, led by director James Gunn. Director Gillespie, who took over from Gunn, is a talented director who has worked on numerous stories with female protagonists. He is highly regarded in Hollywood for his ability to breathe life into his works with deep themes and bold direction.
The main character is Supergirl/Kara Zor-El, cousin of Superman/Clark Kent. A new story begins with the popular character "Supergirl," loved by people all over the world, not just American comic book fans.
The main character, Supergirl/Kara Zor-El, will be played by Millie Alcock, a 25-year-old from Sydney, Australia, born in 2000. The film will also see the return of "Superdog" Krypto. Lucy Mary Knoll, an alien girl who also appears in the original comics and travels with Supergirl and Krypto, will be played by Eve Ridley, who gained attention for her role in the Netflix drama "The Three-Body Problem." Jason Momoa, who is familiar to DC fans from the "Aquaman" series, has also been confirmed to appear.
The released teaser trailer begins with a newspaper headline reading "Superman Saves the City," suggesting that the story is connected to "Superman." Next, we see Krypto walking around his house and Kara waking up listlessly hungover. She then declares, "I'm Kara Zor-El. I'm going to have the best 23 years of my life," but her remark to Krypto, "It's okay. We can get through this," suggests that she has experienced some kind of painful event in the past. Lucy then appears and talks about the destruction of Kara's home planet, Krypton.
Supergirl's costume and action scenes were also revealed for the first time. She was shown to have abilities on par with Superman's, such as shooting beams of light from her eyes, building expectations for Supergirl's exploits. Towards the end of the film, when Lucy asks her, "What are Superman's abilities?" she replies, "He sees the good in people. I see the truth." This not only succinctly expresses the true nature of the character Supergirl, who has a different perspective from Superman, but also hints at the birth of a new story for a new hero in the DC Universe!
A teaser visual was also released along with the trailer, depicting Supergirl in front of the camera with the provocative words "Truth/Justice/I don't care." It symbolically represents the arrival of a new generation of unconventional and independent heroines.
