The cast of the new anime based on the popular manga ''Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube'' has been announced, and it has been revealed that voice actor Toshiyuki Morikawa will play Kyosuke Tamamo, the biggest rival of Meisuke Nueno, also known as Nube. Morikawa played Tamamo in the TV anime that aired from 1996 to 1997, and will reprise his role in the new series. This will be the first time a new anime adaptation of "Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube" has been produced in about 26 years, since the 1999 original video animation (OVA) "Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube: The Greatest Battle in History! Zekki Raishū!!"
This was announced during the live broadcast program "New Anime ' Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube' Domori Elementary School 5th Grade Class 3 Open Class!" on February 28th. It was also announced that Shiraishi Ryoko will play Tatsuno Hiroshi, Suzaki Aya will play Inaba Goko, Kurosawa Tomoyo will play Hosokawa Miki, Iwasaki Ryota will play Ryota Iwasaki, and Kojomon Shiho will play Kurita Makoto as students of 5th grade class 3. It was also revealed that Aya Endo will play Takahashi Ritsuko, the homeroom teacher of 5th grade class 2, and Ai Kakuma will play Yukime, a mysterious girl who claims to be Nube's fiancée.
Morikawa, who plays Tamamo, commented, "I am truly happy to be once again playing Tamamo, the nemesis and rival of Nueno-sensei. I am already practicing my lines as the fox demon Tamamo, in order to perfect my human transformation technique (laughs). Please look forward to it, everyone! Adios!"
Shiraishi, who plays Tatsuno Hiro, said, "I'm very happy to be playing Tatsuno Hiro in the Reiwa version of ' Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube'! I look forward to working with him! With Okiayu-san in the middle, I feel safe knowing that the axis doesn't waver, and the set is tense but warm. I'm throwing myself into the role of Hiro, who has a strong sense of justice and is cool (? lol). It's on at night, so I might not be able to sleep because it's scary... Please look forward to the broadcast!"
Suzaki, who plays Inaba Goko, commented, "How could I have imagined that such a future would await me back then, when I was glued to the TV watching Nube every week? It really is like a dream. Many of the cast members are exactly from my generation, and the dubbing was very harmonious. I think it will be a scary and entertaining series that will appeal to adults like me who spent their youth with Nube, as well as to little kids of the Reiwa era. I hope you will look forward to it."
Kurosawa, who plays Hosokawa Miki, said, "It has finally been announced. When I'm acting, it's so much fun that I just do whatever I want, but when I calm down I remember the big back of my predecessor, Tominaga (Mina), and I start trembling. I will do my best to play the role, so I hope you will continue to support me!"
Iwasaki, who plays Kimura Katsuya, said, "I've loved Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube since I was a child! I never dreamed I'd be able to appear in the role of Kimura Katsuya, a character from Nube class! Everyone on set, from the staff to the cast, are huge fans of Nube, so I'm really happy to be able to deliver this love and passion for Nube to everyone! Please look forward to the Reiwa version of Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube!"
Furushiromon, who plays Kurita Makoto, commented, "When I was a child, my mother would always tell me, 'It's so scary you won't be able to sleep!' but I would say, 'It's okay, it's okay!' and sneakily watch Nube with my father, glued to the TV when my mother wasn't looking. It's like a dream to be able to take part in Nube, the show that has captivated so many people! What! Is it the work of a pillow-turning spell?! I hope that this Reiwa-era version of Nube will also be a work that stays deep in everyone's hearts!"
Aya Endo, who plays Takahashi Ritsuko, said, "At the time, I had a lot of fun recording with my friends who all wanted to be Nube's students. Of course, I was one of them, but I never dreamed that I would become Professor Nueno's colleague! The thing that the teacher I play, Takahashi Ritsuko, and I have in common is that we both hate ghosts. I hope you will enjoy the kind and hardworking Professor Ritsuko!"
Kakuma, who plays Yukime, said, "When I was in elementary school, I remember playing with my friends to see how far I could spread my arms to resemble the demon's hand from ' Nube'. I am amazed to think that I will actually get to meet Nueno-sensei as the very same ' Nube' that could only be drawn now!"
The main staff was also announced, with Yasuyuki Oishi as director, Yoshiki Okusa as series composer, Yu Yoshiyama as character designer, and Evan Call as music composer. Studio KAI will produce the series.
A key visual showing Nube protecting his students with a determined look on his face, as well as a promotional video featuring the characters' lines have also been released.
Director Oishi commented, "It's scary, but you can't take your eyes off it. I was one of those Nube readers, and with this anime adaptation I'm happy to have the opportunity to bring this scary story to everyone as part of the staff. The staff and cast are all putting their heart and soul into making this an anime that you can't take your eyes off of."
"Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube" is a manga written by Makura Shou and illustrated by Okano Takeshi, which was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" from 1993 to 1999. The story follows Meisuke Nueno(Nube), a young teacher assigned to Domori Elementary School, who solves a series of incidents with the power of the "demon hand" that resides in his left arm. The official sequel, "Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube NEO", was serialized in "Grand Jump" (same publisher) from 2014 to 2018, and "Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube S" was serialized in "Saikyō Jump" (same publisher) from 2018 to 2021. The series has sold a total of approximately 29 million copies.
The TV anime aired from 1996 to 1997, and was also made into an OVA and a movie. In 2014, a TV drama starring Ryuhei Maruyama was broadcast.
The new anime is also attracting attention because Ryotaro Okiayu , who played the main character, Meisuke Nueno , in the TV anime, movie anime, and OVA that aired from 1996 to 1997, will reprise his role. The series will be broadcast on TV Asahi's anime slot "IMAnimation W" every Wednesday at 11:45 pm from July.
