It has been announced that "CITY THE ANIMATION", an anime based on the manga "CITY" by Arawi Keiichi, known for "Nichijou" and other works, will be broadcast as a TV anime from July. The first key visual, featuring the characters packed into the logo of the series, has also been released. It is said to contain the wish of the staff at Kyoto Animation, who are producing the anime, that "everyone will love all of the characters." This is the first time in about six years that Kyoto Animation has produced a new anime, excluding sequels.
Additional cast members were announced, including Yoshihisa Kawahara as Tsuruhishi Makabe, Miyu Irino as Tsuruhishi's son Tatsuwaku Makabe, and Ayaka Nanase as Tatsuwaku's sister Matsuri Makabe. Azusa Tadokoro will play Eri Amakazari, and Yu Wakui will play Riko Izumi.
Kawahara commented, "To everyone who is looking forward to the broadcast of "CITY THE ANIMATION"! I have some good news for you! This animation is insanely funny!! You're saying that only someone involved would say that, right? Seriously! It's funny!! Irino said, "My dream of appearing in Arai Keiichi's work has come true! I wonder if it's okay for something to be this happy. "CITY" is a manga that was serialized in "Morning" (Kodansha) from 2016 to 2021. It depicts the lives of some slightly unusual people living in an ordinary "CITY", including penniless college student Nagumo Mitori, Nikura, and Izumi Wako.
The anime will be directed by Taichi Ishidate, known for "Beyond the Boundary" and "Violet Evergarden," and produced by Kyoto Animation, the studio behind the "Nichijou" TV anime. Mikako Komatsu will play the protagonist, Mitori Nagumo, Aki Toyosaki will play the protagonist's friend, Nikura, and Yui Ishikawa will play the mysterious character, Wako Izumi.
