It has recently been announced that actor Asuka Saito will be appearing in the NHK drama series "The Uncertain Courtroom of Themis" (General TV, Tuesdays at 10pm), starring Kenichi Matsuyama. This will be Saito's first NHK drama. She will play a daughter who believes her father is innocent after being framed for murder and fights for a retrial.
"The Uncertain Courtroom of Themis" is based on a unique legal mystery by Sho Naoshima. It is a courtroom drama about a judge with a developmental disorder who struggles with his own unique characteristics while taking on complex cases. The screenplay is written by Hideya Hamada, who has also written the Fuji TV series "Ichikei no Karasu" and the "Absolute Zero" series.
Saito will play Yoshizawa Aki, the daughter of Akiba Kazuma, who was executed for the Maebashi Family Murders, and will appear in the fourth episode.
Aki, who has lived in the perpetrator's family since childhood, gets married, has a child, and finally finds peace in her life, but the moment she holds her child in her arms, her father's warmth comes back to her, and she opens a box of her father's belongings that she had sealed away. There, she finds "something" that may prove her innocence, which prompts her to face the case once again and take action to seek a retrial.
Saito's acting is said to have brought his co-stars to tears as he gets closer to the heart of the story.
Soma Santoki will appear in the second episode of the drama, Ito Aoi in the third and fourth episodes, and Yamamoto Mirai in the third episode.
