A new promotional video has been released for the TV anime "Tetsunabe no Jan!", based on the manga by Shinji Saijo serialized in "Weekly Shonen Champion" (Akita Shoten). Titled "Main PV (Behind the Scenes ver.)", the video features Ohtani Nichido, a food critic known as the "behind-the-scenes heroine" for possessing both the best palate in Japan and a terrible personality, critiquing Jan. As Jan's greatest nemesis, she introduces Jan's dangerous charm while slightly exaggerating it. This is a stark contrast to the "Main PV (Front ver.)" released in May, which hinted at an intense cooking battle. A key visual featuring a large gathering of chefs who use magical cooking has also been released.
It was also announced that Tomokazu Sugita will be joining the cast as a voice actor, playing Ryuji Bito, a master of XO sauce. Ryuji Bito is a chef sent by Nichido Otani to take on Jean, and he is infatuated with Otani, having made a fortune in the past by challenging numerous chefs to high-stakes competitions. Sugita said, "I was following the original manga in real time when it was released. At first, I couldn't believe that it would be made into an anime. I was sulking because there was no audition, but then I was cast as Ryu of XO sauce, and my excitement went through the roof. Yes!!"
It was also announced that singer Emunimini will be in charge of the ending theme, "Naita Akuma" (The Crying Devil).
Emunimini commented, "I feel truly honored to have been given such a wonderful opportunity when I've only just started my career! 'The Crying Devil' is a song that focuses on Jean's devilish spirit, his confident demeanor, and the fact that, despite appearing perfect and invincible, he actually has very human weaknesses and the fragility to try and hide those weaknesses. I myself cherished Jean's feelings and put my heart into every single word as I sang. I hope you enjoy the anime, of course, but I would be especially happy if you listen to the ending theme as if you were listening to the voice in Jean's heart. I hope 'The Crying Devil' will be like a dessert that concludes this passionate story, a secret ingredient that enhances the charm of the work, and become a song that will remain in everyone's hearts! I sincerely hope that this work will be loved by many people!"
A special program, "TV Anime 'Tetsunabe no Jan!' Broadcast Commemoration Special 'Tetsunabe no Ryuji!'", will air on TV Tokyo and its affiliates from 9:30 AM on July 4th. The program will feature cooking expert Ryuji, voice actor Kikunosuke Toya Totani, who plays Akiyama Jan in the anime, and Koji Yamamoto of the comedy duo "Time Machine 3-go".
"Tetsunabe no Jan!" is a manga depicting an unprecedented cooking battle. The protagonist, Jan, believes that victory is all about cooking, and anything goes. The heroine, Kiriko, is pure and innocent, and her heart is all about cooking. Together they unleash magical, deadly weapons (cooking). It was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Champion" from 1995 to 2000. The series has sold over 10 million copies in total.
This marks the first time the series has been adapted into an anime. It will be directed by Ei Aoki, known for his work on numerous popular titles such as "Fate / Zero," " Aldnoah.Zero ," and "The Garden of Sinners: The Movie," and produced by TROYCA, known for "Aldnoah.Zero," "Overtake!," and "ATRI." Totani will voice the protagonist, Ikumi Hasegawa, while Kohei Amasaki will play the heroine, Kiriko Gobancho, and Kohei Amasaki will play Takao Okonogi, Jean's only confidant. Kenjiro Tsuda will provide the narration. It will air on TV Tokyo every Sunday at 5:30 PM starting July 5th.
