Actress Shiraishi Sei recently attended a press conference in Tokyo for the drama series "Ichijigen no Sashiki" (One-Dimensional Cutting), starring Ryosuke Yamada of the popular group " Hey! Say! JUMP " (Yomiuri TV/Nippon TV, Sundays at 10:30 PM, starting July 5th).
The drama is based on the novel of the same name by Ryunosuke Matsushita, which won the 2025 Bunko Grand Prix in Takarajimasha's "This Mystery is Amazing!" competition.
Nanase Yu (Yamada), a graduate student studying genetics, cannot forget his missing stepsister, Shiori ( Mayu Hotta), and believes she is still alive. One day, his mentor, Professor Iwamizaki (Masana Bokuzo), asks him to perform DNA testing on 200-year-old human remains excavated at Lake Rupukund in India, and he discovers that the DNA of the remains is a 100% match of the missing Shiori. The DNA match, the mysterious deaths of those involved, the stolen remains, the vanished memories of the past...all of these elements begin to connect in a single thread.
Shiraishi plays Professor Iwamizaki's niece, Iwamizaki Yui. "It's a mystery that takes many twists and turns, so I'm trying to keep track of everything as we go along. I'm trying to figure out what the characters are really thinking behind their lines, and what their true feelings are, and since there are so many characters, I'm trying to think about what they were doing and thinking in the parts of the script that aren't explicitly written about my character," she said, describing what she's focusing on.
When Honami Suzuki, "You have to read the other people's scenes too, right?", Shiraishi replied, "That's right. Sometimes my own story is told in other people's scenes, so if I don't read everything, my head gets completely full..."
She also mentioned a memorable episode from filming, specifically a scene with Shinya Kote, saying, "It was a serious, tense scene, and one of Kote-san's lines included the main character's name, 'Yu Nanase,' but in the actual take he said 'Haruka Ayase'... That really cracked me up, and it was incredibly relaxing."
Kote explained, "The script is mostly finished, but we're not filming in order, so for example, we might shoot scenes for episodes 3, 6, and 9 in one day. I have to work backwards to figure out what information I have and at what point in time. I'm really confused. That's why I let it slip. I've never met Haruka Ayase, so I have this desire to meet her..."
Yamada, Taisei Kido, Shiori Doi, Hotta, and Sasaki Kuranosuke also attended the press conference announcing the production.
