Ryosuke Yamada of the popular group " Hey! Say! JUMP " recently attended a press conference in Tokyo for the upcoming drama series "Ichijigen no Sashiki" (One-Dimensional Cutting), in which he plays the lead role (Yomiuri TV/Nippon TV, Sundays at 10:30 PM, starting July 5th).
The drama is based on the novel of the same name by Ryunosuke Matsushita, which won the 2025 Bunko Grand Prix in Takarajimasha's "This Mystery is Amazing!" competition.
Nanase Yu (Yamada), a graduate student studying genetics, cannot forget his missing stepsister, Shiori ( Mayu Hotta), and believes she is still alive. One day, his mentor, Professor Iwamizaki (Masana Bokuzo), asks him to perform DNA testing on 200-year-old human remains excavated at Lake Rupukund in India, and he discovers that the DNA of the remains is a 100% match of the missing Shiori. The DNA match, the mysterious deaths of those involved, the stolen remains, the vanished memories of the past...all of these elements begin to connect in a single thread.
Yamada described his character, Nanase Yu, saying, "The character I play, is a boy who has a certain vulnerability and a constant sense of transience." He continued, "In the original work, Nanase Yu is depicted as a very handsome man. How to bring that out has been a theme for me... I thought it would be good if there was a little bit of sexiness in the elements of the human mystery, so I'm exploring the character of Nanase Yu every day while filming."
Also, Taisei Kido, who plays Mikio Maehara, the right-hand man of Yu's father Kyoichi (Kuranosuke Sasaki) and works at a major pharmaceutical company, spoke about the scene where he ran with Yamada early in the morning. "Yamada finished in one take first. I ran too fast and had various other issues, so I ended up running a third time. I heard from the staff that Yamada was grinning the second time, but when I had to run a third time, I was told that Yamada was really worried. We were filming together again a few days later, and we both had terrible muscle pain in our lower bodies... It made me realize that I need to think about my age," he said. Yamada, who turned 33 in May, recalled, "(Kido) is also 30 this year, right? Early morning sprints in your 30s are dangerous...! We did some warm-up exercises together."
Yamada addressed those looking forward to the drama, saying, "The drama starts with the mystery of a 200-year-old human skeleton that perfectly matches the DNA of a missing sister. It may not be a happy or cheerful drama, but it is a work that is full of excitement and suspense that will make you think, 'That drama is coming, it's coming,' as Sunday approaches each week, so I hope you will watch it from the first episode."
Shiraishi Sei, Shiori Doi, Hotta, Kote Shinya, Honami Suzuki, and Sasaki also attended the press conference announcing the production.
