It has been announced that the film "Shibire," starring actor Takumi Kitamura, will be officially entered into the Panorama section of the Berlin International Film Festival to be held in February 2026. Following the official entry, the first footage of the film for the Berlin International Film Festival has also been released.
The film is the latest work by director Takuya Uchiyama, known for "Sasaki, In My Mind" and "Young Strangers." It depicts the 20 years of a lonely boy searching for his place in the world, before discovering a breathtakingly powerful love. Kitamura will play the protagonist Daichi, and other cast members include Rie Miyazawa and Masatoshi Nagase.
The main footage for the Berlin International Film Festival shows Daichi, played by Kato Anji, as a young boy, alone fetching water for daily use from a river, captured in a documentary style on film.
The film will be released in 2026.
