Shinichi Hatori, the Caster of TV Asahi's morning information program "Hatori Shinichi Morning Show" (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM), and regular commentator Toru Tamagawa appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), which aired on December 24th. They talked about an episode from their childhood.
Hatori says he wasn't much of a talkative child. Due to the nature of his job, he talks at work, but even now he hardly talks at home. "If you divide people into two groups, cheerful and gloomy, I fall into the gloomy group," he explained.
Hatori said that he is "trying hard" to talk to his 9-year-old daughter because he feels that "I have to talk properly." However, he revealed that when it comes to his wife, "I feel sorry for her, but I don't talk to her because I feel comfortable with her. When people see me on TV, they say, 'You talk a lot!'"
On the other hand, Tamagawa was said to have been a restless child in the early years of elementary school. One day, during a parent-teacher conference, her mother noticed Tamagawa wandering around the classroom the whole time, which worried her. When she checked with the teacher, the teacher replied, "Today you're doing well. You're in the classroom."
Tamagawa recalled, "I vaguely remember that when I was running (out of the classroom), the teacher chased after me and grabbed me halfway up the stairs. So I guess I wasn't really in the classroom," he said. "I think I thought that once I got to school and understood what was being said in class, there was no need for me to sit (in my seat) any longer."
Upon hearing this story, Tetsuko, along with Hatori, chimed in, "That's not cute." She then reminisced about her childhood, saying, "Me too (laughs). I was bored, so I walked around." Tetsuko, who used to invite street performers into the classroom and talk loudly to swallows during class, was expelled from elementary school in the first grade.
Tetsuko recalled, "I was expelled after one year, and by chance there was a really good school called Tomoe Gakuen (which I attended next). If (my first school) hadn't accepted me, I would have been scolded every day and would have been really upset. I'm glad they accepted me."
