The variety show "Good Time to Look! Good Time to Eat! Good Time to Laugh!!," starring the female trio idol group Candies, will be broadcast on the CS Home Drama Channel from October 12th. At the height of their popularity, Candies were all the rage in the 1970s, and they performed alongside Ito Shiro and Komatsu Masao, even trying their hand at comedy sketches. This will be the first broadcast of this legendary variety show, which sparked a huge boom in living rooms across Japan, in about 50 years.
Ran Ito, a former member of Candies, said, "I was filled with nostalgia when I heard that 'Migorō...' was going to be re-aired for the first time in about 50 years."
The show skillfully combined songs and comedy sketches. Popular pieces included "Densenman," a hero born from Ito's "Benjamin Ito" segment, "Densen Ondo," a dance performed by characters designed by manga artist Ishinomori Shotaro, and "Shiraketori Ondo," a song sung by Komatsu with a Shiraketori puppet.
Candies also showed off their talent as comediennes in skits such as "The Third Daughter of a Naughty Family," a stark contrast to the glamorous performance of their hit songs.
Ito reminisces, "There was a singing stage every time, and the drama and comedy sketches were well-crafted, so I think it was a luxurious program worthy of the name variety show. The program was filled with the love of the production team, who wanted people to be happy and have fun. I can still remember the laughter and smiling faces of Producer Sumeragi and the production staff at the time during the recording."
She also reflected, "Perhaps it was because we were being watched over with such warm eyes that we felt at ease, were able to have fun and play, and were able to meet the expectations of the staff."
Starting October 12th, 20 selected titles will be broadcast every Sunday at 9:30pm.
