"The House in the Middle of Nowhere" (ABC TV/TV Asahi, Sunday 7:58pm) is a variety show that uses satellite photos to find a secluded house. The October 6th episode introduces a couple who live in Iwate Prefecture, surrounded by beautiful fields and natural scenery.
The satellite photos the search team got hold of showed a landscape of rows of roofs, with fields carved into the mountain valley. After passing through a village with rice paddies, the search team entered the wooded mountains. Along a steep mountain path, there was a "Beware of Bears" sign. No matter how far they went, there was no sign of a house, but when the mountain opened up, a beautifully maintained field caught their eye.
In this remote mountain area, a couple aged 80 and 77 welcomed the search team with smiles. There are bear repellents installed around the house, and the couple said, "We've lived here a long time, but this is the first time we've seen a bear."
Their ancestors came to this area in the early Meiji period. They cultivated the land deep in the mountains and made a living from rice farming, forestry, and raising horses for food. There used to be a settlement of three houses, but 25 years ago there was only one. There are buildings such as the "tofu hut" from when they made tofu, the silo and equipment storehouse from when they were a livestock farmer, and even a storehouse built in the Meiji period. They have been married for 58 years. Although the livestock farming has now closed, the couple still tend to the fields together, blending into the scenery.
The trailer shows a well in the house and how they entertain search parties with "healthy meals" made from freshly picked vegetables.
The guests are talent Miyake Yuji and former Nogizaka46 member and actor Higuchi Hina.
