A 4K digital restoration of "Gamera vs. Barugon," the second film in the "Gamera" monster film series and released in 1966 (directed by Tanaka Shigeo), will be broadcast on BS12 TwellV from 7pm on Getsuku. This is the first color film to feature brilliant special effects, and sees Gamera battle Barugon, who fires a beautiful rainbow-colored ray that freezes the city.
Six months have passed since Gamera, who had slept in the ice for thousands of years, first appeared before mankind. Operation Z, humanity's last hope, was in vain, and Gamera returned to Earth and attacked Kurobe Dam. At the same time, Hirata (Hongo Kojiro), Onodera (Fujiyama Koji), and Kawajiri (Hayakawa Yuzo) head to a cave in New Guinea in search of a giant opal.
Despite the protests of Karen (Eba Kyoko) and the other local people, they obtain the mysteriously glowing "mysterious stone" and are struck by one misfortune after another. The greatest misfortune is that the mysterious stone hatches a giant monster called "Barugon"... Barugon freezes Osaka Castle with a beautiful rainbow ray. A fierce battle ensues between Gamera and the group, but the outcome is inconclusive, and the people are thrown into chaos.
In order to save humanity, Karen proposes a plan based on legend: to lure Barugon with a giant diamond and sink him underwater. The final duel between Gamera and Barugon begins on Lake Biwa, Japan's largest lake.
