"The House in the Middle of Nowhere" (ABC TV/TV Asahi) is a variety show that uses satellite photos to find a secluded house. The February 23rd broadcast follows an 81-year-old couple who bought land deep in the mountains of Kyoto 50 years ago and continue to farm there.
The search team's destination is a deep mountain area more than an hour's drive from central Kyoto. On the way, they ask a resident to look at a house they see in satellite photos, and he tells them that someone lived there about 60 years ago, but that no one lives there now. However, the resident knows the owner of the rice field in front of the house, so the search team visits the owner (84). They discover that the building they thought was a house is actually a farm hut, and that the hut's owner's brother lives nearby.
The search became unexpectedly large, and after continuing to ask around, the search team finally met the owner of the farm hut, an 81-year-old man. The man told them he went to the fields almost every day, and they accompanied him to the farm hut.
The property is surrounded by densely wooded mountains and has a field of about 11,900 square meters. The man bought the land 50 years ago and has continued farming while working as a carpenter. He quit his job 20 years ago and has been growing Kyoto vegetables such as purple hooded beans and shrimp potatoes, which are considered lucky charms, as well as chestnut trees. The trailer also shows the couple treating the search team to boiled shrimp potatoes.
He lives in a village at the foot of the mountain with his wife (80), whom he has been married to for 56 years. The program introduces the life of this loving couple, who work in the fields, harvest, and go shopping together in the mountains.
The guests are actress Miyuki Matsuda and Keisuke Okada from the comedy duo "Masudaoka."
