It has been announced that a novel based on the popular anime and other media "Mobile Police Patlabor," titled "Mobile Police Patlabor: Goto the Sushi Chef" (Bungei Shunju), will be released on June 25th. The novel is said to be a "legitimate (?) sequel" written by Kazunori Ito, the series' composition and scriptwriter, and will feature Captain Kiichi Goto as a sushi chef. The cover art was drawn by Masami Yuki, the author of the "Mobile Police Patlabor" manga.
Thirty years have passed since "that day," and Kiichi Goto, the former captain of the Special Vehicles Division 2nd Platoon, has become a sushi chef. Goto runs a small sushi restaurant in Atami, and former members of Special Vehicles Division 2, including Yuma, Noa, Ota, Shinji, Yamazaki, and Kanuka, come to visit.
The mook "Weekly Bunshun Entertainment + Special Feature: Mobile Police Patlabor" (same publisher), which had already been ordered for a reprint before its release on May 15th, has sold out at bookstores everywhere, and it has now been announced that a third reprint has been ordered just three days after its release.
"Mobile Police Patlabor" is a multimedia project created by the legendary creative group "HEADGEAR," consisting of Masami Yuki, Yutaka Izubuchi, Ito, Akemi Takada, and Mamoru Oshii. It began in 1988 with an OVA (Original Video Animation) called "Early Days," and has since expanded into manga by Yuki, television anime, theatrical anime films, novels, audio dramas, games, and live-action films.
The new anime series, "Mobile Police Patlabor EZY," has also been generating buzz. The new series consists of three chapters and eight episodes in total, with the first chapter released in theaters on May 15th. The second chapter will be released on August 14th, and the third chapter in March 2027.
