It has been announced that the new episode of the popular gourmet documentary drama "The Kodoku no Gourmet Season 11" (TV Tokyo), starring actor Yutaka Matsushige, will be broadcast from 12:12 a.m. on April 3rd. This will be the first new season in about three and a half years since "Season 10" in October 2022.
The drama is a live-action adaptation of the manga of the same name written by Masayuki Kusumi and illustrated by Jiro Taniguchi, depicting the blissful moments when the protagonist, Goro Inogashira, an import goods merchant, "eats freely" at a restaurant he discovers while on a business trip. Since its premiere in 2012, the series has grown into a popular series that transcends the boundaries of late-night drama, garnering support for its mouthwatering dishes, Goro's bold eating habits, and the unique, inner-voiced narrative of Matsushige. A spin-off drama, "Each Kodoku no Gourmet," was broadcast in 2024, and the annual "New Year's Eve Special" has been broadcast for nine consecutive years. Last year, the feature film " Kodoku no Gourmet," directed, written, and starring Matsushige himself, was released and became a box office hit, grossing over 1 billion yen.
Regarding the production of the new season, Matsushige commented, "The series has reached 10 episodes, and after doing the spin-off 'Each Kodoku no Gourmet,' the feature film ' Kodoku no Gourmet' was released last year. This is the perfect timing for me to leave, but due to various circumstances, I will continue on. Accept your fate without resisting it. Eat all the food that is put in front of you. This is life too. Or rather, this is what life has been like... We will be doing season 11."
TV Tokyo producer Komatsu Yukitoshi said, "It's been 14 years since the show first aired, and it has grown in popularity and recognition. We received a lot of support during filming, and were often asked, 'When will it start airing?' Before the information ban was lifted, we could only give vague answers, but we apologize for keeping you waiting! This is the first regular season in about three and a half years, but we will run through all 12 episodes in a 'relaxed, unchanged' quest for delicious gourmet food. 'Furatto QUSUMI' (a mini-corner featuring author Kusumi) will also be returning for the first time in three and a half years.
