A scene from episode 30, "The Southern Hero," of the TV anime "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End," based on the manga currently being serialized in "Weekly Shonen Sunday" (Shogakukan), has been released. The scene depicts the "Southern Hero" who appears before Frieren before she meets Himmel, as well as a powerful battle scene. Kazuhiko Inoue's performance as the Southern Hero has also been a hot topic.
In episode 30, Frieren and her friends are asked to polish a statue of a hero in a village in the northern countries. The statue is not Himmel, but a statue of the "Hero of the South," once hailed as the strongest man in the world. Frieren recalls the time when she met the "Hero of the South." Later, when they visit the castle town of Count Dach, Frieren and her friends are asked by the lord to "recover a treasured sword from the demons." Episode 30 will air on Nippon Television on January 23rd.
"Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" is a manga written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe, which began serialization in Weekly Shonen Sunday in April 2020. Freiren is a magician in the hero's party who defeated the Demon King. Being an elf, Frieren lives a long life. After experiencing the death of a companion, she embarks on a journey to "discover people." The manga has been selected for the Manga Taisho 2021, the 25th Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize Newcomer Award, the 69th (2023) Shogakukan Manga Award, and the 48th Kodansha Manga Award in the Boys' category. The manga has sold over 32 million copies.
The first season of the TV anime aired on Nippon Television's anime slot "FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT (Furaani)" from September 2023 to March 2024. The second season is currently airing in the same slot every Friday at 11:00 PM.
