It has been announced that the TV anime "Marriage Toxin," based on the manga by Kaiban and illustrated by Yoda Mizuki, currently being serialized on Shueisha's manga app "Shonen Jump+," will be broadcast on the Kansai TV/Fuji TV anime slot "Ka Anibaru!!" every Tuesday at 11pm starting in April 2026. The main visual featuring characters such as the protagonist Gero Hikaru and Gero's partner Kinosaki Mei has been released.
Additional cast members have also been announced, including Nagase Anna as the beautiful thief Himekawa Kyoko, Ise Mariya as the underworld businessman and "water user"Mariya Ise, Yukawa Asaki as the shy Ureshino Shiori and next president of the large company Balzac Co., Ltd., Soma Saito, the descendant of the "sound user" tradition passed down from father to son, Shirahama Tounano as the "hamster user" Arashiyama Kimie, and Tsuchiya Shinba as the assassin hunter Nakagawa Momoichi.
The first trailer was released on YouTube, showcasing the skilled assassins who stand in the way of the "two strongest people," Hikaru Gero and Mei Kinosaki, who meet in the underworld, as well as the characters who appear in the extremely difficult "marriage hunting" mission. The trailer also includes a battle scene that gives a glimpse into the power of Gero, a top-class assassin known as a "poison user."
Nagase, who plays Himekawa Kyoko, commented, "I was surprised by the two completely different themes of 'marriage hunting' and 'hitman,' but I couldn't help but laugh at the contrast as I read the original work. I'm really happy to be able to appear as my beloved Himekawa Kyoko! When I read the original work, I was immediately drawn to Kyoko's bold, straightforward, and strong-willed character. Ise, who plays Ushio Shizuku, said, "When I read the original work, I wondered how I should speak, wearing a helmet...and in water...? (laughs) I tried to act in a way that would bring out Ushio's coolness and mysterious aura, so I hope you will enjoy the role!"
Yukawa, who plays Ureshino Shiori, commented, "With the death of her father and the overwhelming title of next president of a large company, Shiori's thoughts begin to spiral downward, but she is a very hard-working girl. With her straightforwardness and the presence of Gero and the others, she grows little by little. Tsuchiya, who plays Nakagawa Momoichi, commented, "I was so happy when I found out I passed the audition! Nakagawa Momoichi is a character who is kind and insane at the same time, and I felt he was the very embodiment of love. I hope to be able to express the passion that flickers inside him without any pretense, with the honesty that is so characteristic of Momoichi."
The story is a battle action "matchmaking" story about a young man, Gero Hikaru, a "poison user" who has been an assassin for hundreds of years, who, in order to keep his bloodline alive, seeks the perfect marriage with a marriage scammer, Kinosaki Mei. The story has been gaining popularity, having been ranked 8th in the web manga category of the "Next Manga Awards 2022."
The anime will be directed by Motonobu Hori, known for "Carole & Tuesday" and "Metallic Rouge," and produced by Bones Films. Haruki Ishiya will play Hikaru Gero, and Shion Wakayama will play Mei Kinosaki, a skilled marriage scammer who helps Gero find a partner.
