The main cast of the original Shinsengumi-themed TV anime "Inheritors of the Wind," produced by Aniplex, Live2D, and Drive, has been announced, with popular group Snow Man's Daisuke Sakuma playing the lead role of Tachikawa Jinsuke. This will be Sakuma's first time starring in a TV anime. It has also been announced that Kaji Yuki will play Yuki Kaji and Yuki Aoi will play Aoi Yuki.
Sakuma, who plays the main character, Tachikawa Jinsuke, who has lost his memory and appears before the Mibu Roshigumi, said, "I never thought the day would come when I would be able to take part in an original animation of an Aniplex production that I love...I am truly happy. From the audition, I was completely drawn in by the world view and the dynamism of the scenario. I am truly grateful to be able to "lend my voice" to Jinsuke in such a wonderful production. Just like Jinsuke who has lost his memory, I will approach the dubbing with a fresh mind and do my best. I hope you will enjoy the new world of the Shinsengumi, which has the added creativity that only an original animation can offer."
Kaji, who plays Okita Souji, the assistant vice- Okita Soji of the Mibu Roshigumi who cares for Jinsuke, who has lost his memory, commented, "The Shinsengumi were great people who actually existed, but they have also been the subject of entertainment in countless ways. I personally find their 'way of life', which continues to capture people's hearts throughout the ages, very appealing. I hope to be able to face Okita Soji in this film with love, passion, and respect. Please look forward to this new historical epic scroll being born in the Reiwa era!"
Yuuki, who plays Koganei Hyogo, a member of the Mibu Roshi-gumi, just like Jinsuke, said, "The Shinsengumi are a group I have a connection with as an actor, and it's a field I've delved into deeply as an otaku, so I was thrilled just when the audition came around. I was ecstatic when I got in, but because I love them so much, I've just had to tighten my helmet straps and face the situation calmly. Koganei, who I'll be playing, is a mischievous and sarcastic boy, but you can't hate him. Because everyone knows the fate of the Shinsengumi, I think this will be a production that everyone will enjoy! Please be sure to check it out!"
It was also announced that a comic adaptation of the work will begin serialization in 2026 on "Twi4," the account that serializes X's four-panel manga. The manga will be written by Matsuri Muramatsu.
The anime is a new type of authentic period drama based on the Shinsengumi, and will be directed by Tomohiro Kawamura, known for works such as "GAMBA: Gamba and His Friends." The script will be written by Yutaka Narii, a playwright who founded the theater group Caramel Box and has received great support from fans for his "Tachikawa Jinsuke Series," including the Shinsengumi-themed play "Inheritors of the Wind," and the music will be composed by Shigeru Kishida of the band Quruli.
In June 1863, a soldier named Tachikawa Jinsuke, who had lost his memory, was brought to the Mibu Roshigumi barracks in Kyoto. Amid the chaos of the end of the Edo period, the Mibu Roshigumi (later the Shinsengumi) grew in presence, and Jinsuke and his men were swept up in the turbulent waves... This is the story.
