An event for the TV anime "Vigilante: My Hero Academia My Hero Academia ILLEGALS," based on the official spinoff of Kohei Horikoshi 's popular manga "My Hero Academia," was held on March 22 at the world's largest anime event, AnimeJapan 2025, held at Tokyo Big Sight (Koto-ku, Tokyo), with Junichi Suwabe, who plays "Eraserhead" Aizawa Shota, and others appearing. He spoke about the appeal of the character and his thoughts on the series.
Aizawa is an underground professional hero, and in "My Hero Academia" he is the homeroom teacher for Class 1-A of the Hero Course at U.A. High School. Suwabe-san said that Aizawa in "Vigilante" before he became a teacher at U.A. High School is more passionate than when he was a teacher, and explained the appeal of being able to see a cool Aizawa. "If you're an Aizawa fan, you're missing out if you don't watch this!" he appealed.
Also appearing at the event were Shuichiro Umeda, who voices Koichi, Ikumi Hasegawa, who voices Pop☆Step, and Mamiya Yasuhiro, who voices Knuckleduster. Umeda said, "I'm so happy that I was able to work as a voice actor in this way and that I met Koichi at the end of that path." Mamiya said, "Right now, the sound staff, voice actors, animation staff, and everyone involved are really putting their all into making this work, so I would appreciate it if you would support this work," and Hasegawa said, "I'm sure it's going to be the best anime ever."
At the event, Suwabe acted as the MC, and a quiz about "Vigilante" was held, as well as comments from the scriptwriter Hideyuki Furuhashi and illustrations and comments from the illustrator Arata Betsuki. It was also announced that the rock band "yutori" will be in charge of the ending theme "Speed".
The original work, written by Hideyuki Furuhashi and illustrated by Arata Betsuki, was serialized on Shueisha's manga app "Shonen Jump +" from 2017 to 2022. It is an official spin-off of the "My Hero Academia" series, set in Japan several years before the events of the "My Hero Academia " series, and depicts the drama of illegal heroes, the Vigilantes, who cannot help but save someone even if they are not recognized by anyone, behind the scenes of the heroes who are recognized and active by the people.
The anime will be directed by Kenichi Suzuki , known for " Cells at Work" and "JOJO'S BIZARRE ADVENTURE Adventure: Stone Ocean," and produced by Bones Films, the same company that produced " My Hero Academia." It will be broadcast on TOKYO MX, Yomiuri TV, and other stations starting April 7.
