On March 6, singer Miu Sakamoto received the "HAPPY WOMAN Award" in the individual category of the "International Women's Day Awards HAPPY WOMAN AWARD 2025 for SDGs" and attended the awards ceremony held in Tokyo. She spoke about her feelings for her father, Ryuichi Sakamoto, who passed away in 2023, and her 9-year-old daughter.
The award recognizes individuals and companies who have taken on challenges and activities to create a sustainable society through the power of women, and who are expected to continue to do great things in the future. Miu has continued to work to spread peace and kindness while confronting various social issues through music. She has worked hard to raise awareness in society, such as by spreading information about the current situation in Palestine and calling for peace, and participating in the Peace March with her daughter. She also devotes herself to animal welfare activities, volunteering to walk rescue dogs and actively supporting animals affected by the earthquake, which is why she received the award.
When asked to whom she would like to share her joy of receiving the award, Miu said, "I'm grateful because I've seen my father actively involved in social activities since I was little," expressing her gratitude to her late father, who devoted himself to various social activities such as environmental protection and support for disaster-stricken areas.
She added, "The first person I told my daughter about the award was me, someone I've been taking with me since before I even knew what was going on. She's nine years old now, and she walks rescue dogs and takes care of cats, and since the Palestinian situation started she's gone to demonstrations with me. She's always been there for me, even doing things that might be difficult for a child, and as we talked, she came to understand, and I want to say thank you to my daughter for walking alongside me."
Also receiving awards in the same category were talent IMALU, singer Hirahara Ayaka, and actor Itaya Yuka.
