A preview screening of the first part of the two-part film series "True Beauty: Before High School Debut / After Proposal" (directed by Hoshino Kazunari), starring model Koki, was held on February 12th at TOHO Cinemas Roppongi (Minato Ward, Tokyo), where Koki, Yuka Sugai and other cast members made an appearance. Sugai shared an episode from the filming site with Koki.
In the film, Koki, plays the protagonist Tanigawa Reina, who is transformed into a goddess with makeup that makes her look like a completely different person, while Sugai plays Kawashima Manami, Reina's classmate and love rival. Although the two play rivals in the film, they seem to have become close on the set, as Koki, said, "We exchanged things we liked, like dried sweet potatoes," to which Sugai replied, "He taught me how to make a really delicious dried sweet potato. I returned the favor by giving him some dried sweet potato in my own way. It was a dried sweet potato communication," drawing laughter.
In reference to the theme of the work, "Never give up on who you want to be," when asked who she "wants to be," Sugai replied, "I want to be able to talk to animals. I heard that Koki, is really good at communicating with animals." In response, Koki, revealed the "animal" communication between the two of them, saying, "I can't talk to animals, but we talked a lot about horses (with Sugai) during breaks, and we talked about how we communicate."
Also appearing at the event were Keisuke Watanabe, Keito Tsuna, Emi Suzuki, Kenjiro Tsuda, and Manager Hoshino.
The film is based on a Korean web comic by yaongyi. It tells the story of a girl who changes her life with makeup in order to realize who she wants to be, and pursues her love and dreams over a period of nine years from age 17 to 25. The first part, "True Beauty Before: High School Debut", will be released on March 20th, and the second part, "True Beauty After: Proposal", will be released on May 1st.
