A preview screening of "True Beauty: Before High School Debut", the first part of the two-part film "True Beauty: Before High School Debut / After Proposal" (directed by Hoshino Kazunari), starring model Koki, was held at TOHO Cinemas Roppongi (Minato Ward, Tokyo) on February 12th, with cast members including Kenjiro Tsuda and Watanabe Keisuke in attendance.
In the movie, Watanabe plays Kanda Shun, a classmate of the main character Tanigawa Reina and known as the Ice Prince, and Tsuda plays Kanda Takao, Shun's father, and they co-star as father and son. In keeping with the theme of the movie, "Never give up on who you want to be," Watanabe was asked who he wanted to be, and confessed, "I want to be Tsudaken-san." Tsuda was surprised, but smiled and said, "I'm happy." On the day, Watanabe and Tsuda happened to be wearing pants with stripes, and Watanabe said, "I wanted to start with the costumes."
On social media, there has been talk about how Tsuda and Watanabe, who play the father and son roles, "sound alike," to which Watanabe commented, "When I heard that, I did a fist pump. Maybe I should speak in a lower voice," to which Tsuda revealed, "He does imitations of me."
Koki, Tsuna Hironaga, Yuka Sugai, Suzuki Emi, and Director Hoshino also appeared at the event.
The film is based on a Korean web comic by yaongyi. It tells the story of a girl who changes her life with makeup in order to realize who she wants to be, and pursues her love and dreams over a period of nine years from age 17 to 25. The first part, "True Beauty Before: High School Debut", will be released on March 20th, and the second part, "True Beauty After: Proposal", will be released on May 1st.
