Actor Shuri was selected as the winner of the Newcomer Award at the 2025 Elan d'or Awards, which recognize actors and producers who have been active in movies and TV dramas, and attended the awards ceremony held in Tokyo on February 8th. "When my senior at my agency, Tomoya Nakamura, received this award, I heard him say, 'Next is Shuri,' and I couldn't believe it, but it was a goal I had secretly set in my heart since then, so I'm happy to be standing here," she said with joy.
The Elan d'or Awards Newcomer Award is awarded based on the following criteria: "A person who has shown fresh and excellent acting in the work they have appeared in" and "A person who has excellent talent and charm as an actor and is expected to have a great future." Shuri was active last year in NHK's morning drama "Boogie Woogie," the drama series "Black Pean Season 2" (TBS), and "Monster" (Kantele/Fuji TV).
When Toshiro Yanagiba, who played the role of father and son with her in "Boogie Woogie," made a surprise appearance as a presenter, Shuri was overwhelmed and exclaimed, "Wow!" Yanagiba sent a message saying, "You are a very hard worker, and your efforts are burned into my heart. This is the best reward," and the two shared a warm embrace and walked down from the stage holding hands.
When asked about the reactions of her father, Mizutani Yutaka, and her mother, Ito Ran, Shuri revealed, "(My father) was smiling and said it was great because it's a wonderful award with such a long history. (My mother) said, 'That's great.'"
The Elan d'or Awards are an awards system that began in 1956. This year, the Newcomer Award went to Takahashi Fumiya, Yuumi Kawai, Mizukami Koji, Shuri, Wakaba Ryuya, and Wakana Matsumoto. The Producer's Award went to Arai Junko from the movie "The Last Mile," Ozaki Hirokazu from "The Tiger and Her Wings," Mizuki Yuta from the movie "True Identity," Isoyama Akira and Amamiya Saeko from the drama series "Inappropriately Too Much!" (TBS), and the Special Award went to the movie "Samurai Time Slipper."
