Movie box office results:"Cells at Work" tops box office for three consecutive weeks, grossing over 2.7 billion yen; new film "Sonic x Shadow: Tokyo Mission"

According to the movie attendance rankings for the 27th to 29th of December (surveyed by Kogyo Tsushinsha) announced on the 30th, " Cells at Work" (directed by Hideki Takeuchi ), a live-action adaptation of the popular manga by Akane Shimizu featuring characters that are personified human cells, topped the list for the third consecutive week. Over the three-day weekend, it attracted around 427,000 people and brought in box office revenue of around 581 million yen, surpassing the previous weekend. A total of 2.02 million people have been seen and box office revenue has now topped 2.7 billion yen.

The rankings from 2nd to 6th remained unchanged from the previous week, with "Moana 2" (directed by Dave Derrick Jr. et al.), in its fourth week since release, coming in second with an audience of 332,000 people and box office revenue of 433 million yen over the three-day weekend. Like " Cells at Work", it has performed better than the previous weekend, with a cumulative total of 2.37 million people attending and a box office revenue of over 3.1 billion yen. In third place was "The Lion King: Mufasa" (directed by Barry Jenkins), which drew in about 187,000 people over the three-day weekend and made about 268 million yen. A cumulative total of over 620,000 people attended and box office revenue is approaching 900 million yen.

Among the new releases, the latest in the film series based on Sega's popular action game Sonic the Hedgehog, "Sonic vs. Shadow: Tokyo Mission" (directed by Jeff Fowler), ranked 9th. In 10th place is the debut of "Determination to Win: 79 Days to Become Japan's Top 100," the ninth installment in the official documentary series following the professional baseball team Yokohama DeNA BayStars (directed by Tsujimoto Kazuo).
