Asagao - Forensic Doctor:New Year's Special broadcast today: The first new episode in 2 years and 4 months in the popular series starring Juri Ueno. It's time to say goodbye to Asagao and her father, Taira, who have lived their lives to the fullest with their family.

The Fuji TV special drama "Asagao - Forensic Doctor 2025 New Year Special," starring actor Juri Ueno, will be broadcast from 9:00 pm to 11:30 pm on January 3rd. This is the first new work in two years and four months since the special drama aired in September 2022, and will reunite familiar actors including Tomoko Yamaguchi.

"Asagao - Forensic Doctor" is based on the manga of the same name, written by Masahito Kagawa, illustrated by Naoki Kimura, and supervised by Yoshinobu Sato, which was serialized in the manga magazine "Manga Sunday" (Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha, currently out of print). The story is adapted from the original setting and depicts Asagao (Ueno), a forensic pathologist whose mother went missing in the Great East Japan Earthquake, and her father, veteran detective Taira (Tokito Saburo), solving the mystery of the body through autopsies and investigations.

The first series was broadcast as a Monday 9pm drama in July 2019, with the second series being broadcast in the same time slot for two consecutive seasons from November 2020. Additionally, one-night special dramas were broadcast in January 2021 and September 2022.

In the new series, five and a half years after the first broadcast, Asagao and her father Taira, who have lived their lives to the fullest, with smiles and tears, while searching for "proof" of their mother (Ishida Hikari) who went missing in the Great East Japan Earthquake, along with her husband, detective Kuwahara Shinya (Kazama Shunsuke), eldest daughter Tsugumi (Nagase Yuzuna), second daughter Satomi (Nakamura Chitose), and other family members, are about to say goodbye. Other cast members include Shida Mirai, Nakao Akiyoshi, Sakamuki Kaori, Tezuka Satomi, Hiraiwa Kami, and Tomosaka Rie.

Taira, who suffered from dementia, moved to a nursing home in Sennoura, Iwate Prefecture, as he had wished, and the Asagao family, consisting of Asagao, Shinya, their eldest daughter Tsugumi, and their second daughter Satomi, began living together. As Tsugumi grew up, she would sometimes be rebellious, making Shinya feel a little lonely, but they continued to live happy, loving days together.

Meanwhile, a body is discovered that appears to have been drowned. A suicide note is also found, so it is thought to have been a suicide, but an autopsy reveals several suspicious points for a drowning, raising the possibility of murder. A body is then found that appears to have been electrocuted, and the autopsy reveals a connection between the two cases. Shinya works hard to investigate, and together with Yamakura (Tetsugi Shigeyuki), Morimoto (Morimoto Shintaro of SixTONES), and other members of the violent crimes division, they close in on the big case that lies ahead. At the same time, Tsugumi begins to talk strangely about Taira, who should not be nearby, saying, "I think I saw my grandpa (Taira)"... and so the story unfolds.
