It has been revealed that actress Alice Hirose will star in the film "Kill Oki Haru-kun's Tears" (directed by Hitoshi Yazaki, opening October 2nd). This will be Hirose's first solo starring role in a film in eight years, since "Miko-chan" in 2018, and she will play the protagonist who returns to her hometown after being given a year to live.
The film is based on the popular novel of the same name by Mio Nukaga, known for works such as "The Demon King of Job Changes," which was adapted into a TV drama. Kyoka Odoriba, a music teacher played by Hirose, is diagnosed with terminal breast cancer and given only one year to live, so she returns to her hometown island in the Seto Inland Sea. As she takes on the role of instructing the choir club at her alma mater, Kyoka meets Okiharu Shizugawa, a mysterious high school student who always has a smile on his face. Okiharu lost his family in the tsunami and has lost all emotions except joy, but after a certain incident, one of his lost emotions begins to subtly resurface, and the story follows Kyoka, who has only a short time left to live, and Okiharu, who has lost all emotion, as they try to rediscover their feelings...
Hirose commented, "In a world where you can't get by on pretty words alone, this film depicts two people who face their own worries and conflicts, but connect with each other on a deeper level. Through acting, it was also a time when I was able to confront myself." She added, "As I played Kyoka, I naturally came to love my own weaknesses. I was able to feel such gentle emotions. This film makes you realize just how wonderful and precious everyday life and emotions can be."
