"Sandwichman & Ashida Mana's Hakase-chan" (TV Asahi) is a show in which children with knowledge and talents that rival those of adults give funny lessons as "Doctor-chans" (teachers). A three-hour New Year's special will be broadcast on January 3rd. The MCs, the comedy duo "Sandwichman" and Ashida, will visit the good luck spots at Sensoji Temple in Tokyo recommended by the "Shrine and Temple Doctor-chan". The second half of the show will feature Shohei Otani, a player for the Los Angeles Dodgers in Major League Baseball. Sandwichman will fly to Los Angeles to find out about Otani's popularity with the local "Doctor-chans who love Shohei Otani".

Appearing as the "Shrine and Temple Doctor" is elementary school student Yuka Maruyama (11), who has visited around 260 shrines and temples so far. In last year's New Year's special, she introduced a route for the first shrine visit in Kyoto to bring good luck, and this time she has also created the "Ultimate Sensoji Temple Guidebook," which the three MCs will use to visit Sensoji Temple.

According to Yuka, most visitors usually head to the main hall through Nakamise, but in fact there are 34 lucky spots in Sensoji Temple, and there are many spots around the main hall that are only known to those in the know. She also mentions that Mitsumine Shrine in Chichibu, Saitama, which is famous as one of the best luck spots in Japan, is located within the grounds of Sensoji Temple.

The three MCs will also visit Asakusa Hanayashiki, Japan's oldest amusement park, which is now flooded with foreign tourists. Guided by "Showa retro amusement park expert" Takayama Kento (19), who has been to 87 amusement parks across the country, they will tour Asakusa Hanayashiki's "must-ride attractions." Two members of Sandwich Man will ride the thrilling ride "Little Star." There will also be a scene where the three will announce their goals for this year, each written on a colored paper.

In the second half, the Sandwichman duo will be in Los Angeles to thoroughly investigate the "Ohtani phenomenon" caused by Otani, who achieved the great record of "50-50". They will tour the city of Los Angeles with the local "Dr. Shohei Otani" Dominic Benedetto (10) as their guide. The two doctors will also appear to talk about how great Otani is, and they will also enjoy Otani's favorite gourmet food.
