The first episode of the NHK Taiga drama " UNBOUND " (General TV, Sunday 8pm and others), starring actor Ryusei Yokohama, "Arigatayama no Kangarasu", will be broadcast on January 5th with an extended 15 minutes. This is the first time that this long-running Taiga drama will depict the mid-Edo period. Here, we will introduce Hiraga Gennai, played by Ken Yasuda Ken.
Hiraga Gennai is "a rare genius whose overflowing ideas will change the future of Japan."
A botanist, a comic book writer, a mine developer, an inventor... He came up with one cutting-edge idea after another and traveled all over Japan to realize them, experiencing success and failure, sometimes being called a speculator. Tanuma Okitsugu was so fascinated by his ideas that he entrusted him with a special mission.
Tsutae also tries to contact Gennai, who has become a celebrity in Edo, to ask him for work in an effort to attract customers back to his hometown of Yoshiwara.
"UNBOUND" is the 64th taiga drama, depicting the life of Tsutaya Juzaburo(or "Tsutajyu" for short), who is said to have built the foundations of Japan's media industry and pop culture. The script was written by Yoshiko Morishita, known for "Drama 10 'Ooku'" which was broadcast on NHK two years ago and became a big hit.
