The original golf-themed TV anime "Sorairo Utility" will begin airing on TOKYO MX, TV Kanagawa, MBS, BS Asahi and others from January 3rd. This is a youth sports comedy about the daily life of Aoba Minami, a high school freshman who is normal and average in every way, who encounters golf while searching for something "special". Minami's daily life begins to change dramatically when she meets Akane Haruka, a genius golfer in her third year of high school, and Hoshimi Ayaka, a third year university student and influencer. Takagi Miyu, the voice actress for Minami, said she started playing golf after appearing in the show. We spoke to Takagi, Amami Yurina, who plays Akane Haruka, and Goto Ayasa, who plays Hoshimi Ayaka, about the appeal of the show and what goes on behind the scenes at the recording studios.
◇Takagi Miyu's golf experience came in handy in her acting!
-What is your impression of the work?
Director Takagi said, "I want to convey the fun of hobbies outside of communities such as schools," and I feel that the TV series delves deeper into that. The fun of golf, which is different from the world of competitive golf, and the everyday life are depicted firmly.
Amami-san has done some sports-oriented golf works, but "Sorairo Utility" is different in a good way. It's a work that you can watch with a relaxed attitude and laugh out loud.
Goto-san's golf is fun, and the three of them get along well through golf, and the bond that deepens through golf is soothing. There are also plenty of humorous elements, making it very funny.
-Have you played golf?
After the TV series was decided, I started playing golf privately. When I looked, I found that there were a lot of golf schools. I was taught from scratch, and it was really fun when I started to be able to hit the ball. I took lessons for about a year and went to the course about three times. I have my own clubs. I still have a long way to go, though.
-Does your experience help you in your acting?
Takagi-san: I can really understand Minami's feelings. Once I was able to actually fly it, I understood the feel and the sound, and it became easier to visualize it.
Mr. Goto also teaches me about golf during recordings.
Amami- san is reliable. I feel like Minami and Miyu are linked. I had the image of golf as a sport that fathers play with their friends, but in the anime, Haruka says, "It's a sport that anyone can enjoy, regardless of age or gender," and it really is. I also had the opportunity to play simulated golf. It was a lot of fun. I could hit the ball quite far.
Mr. Goto , I didn't hit the ball...
Takagi-san was disappointed
Goto-san, in the anime Minami also can't hit the ball at first, so I could sympathize with that.
Takagi-san, Minami is not a genius at all. I think that's what makes her so charming.
-Are you athletic?
Takagi-san is good at it! He always ranked first in physical fitness tests. However, he had never played a sport that required equipment. He was not good at tennis or baseball, but after trying golf, he started to think that maybe he could do it. Maybe it was because the ball wasn't moving that he was suited to it?
Goto: I'm not good at ball games either. I had a hard time when I was a student. As Miyu said, you can practice golf at home, and if you practice facing yourself, you should be able to improve that much, so it's great.
I think it's because of Takagi-san that it's easy for people of all ages to get started.
◇Do Amami Yurina and Haruka look alike?
-What was the most important thing to you while acting?
Amami Haruka is the one who loves golf the most in this work, and is more passionate about it than anyone else. I had no experience with golf, so I tried to replace golf with something inside myself. I think everyone has their own passion, so I tried to express that passion through my lines. The character itself is similar to me in many ways, so I was able to play it as a fairly life-size character. The director took great care with our lines and nuances, which made it very easy to act. We are both good friends in private, so there were some parts where I was able to project our relationship directly onto the character.
They look alike Takagi- san!
Amami-san is headstrong in what she wants to do. I'm the same type of person, so I felt a sense of affinity with her. The director accepted our acting, so we were able to act without overreaching.
We're starting to see a bit more of his bold side than in the Takagi-san short story.
Goto-san: Ayaka-chan is the oldest of the three, so I was conscious of making her look more mature. She's mature in both age and mentality, but she also has a lot of cute parts, and I tried to express those parts naturally. There was quite a lot of ad-lib, and I was always conscious of trying to be Ayaka-chan, so that what came out of me would be Ayaka-chan's expression.
Both Takagi-san , Ayaka and Ayaka have high femininity. It was impressive to see them doing the recording with their hair in braids just like Ayaka-chan.
