The Japan premiere of Disney Animation Studios' latest film "Moana 2" (released December 6th, directed by Dave Derrick Jr. and others) was held in Tokyo on November 28th. At the event, Tomona Yabiku, who voices Moana in the Japanese version, performed a solo version of the song "Beyond ~Koete Yukou~". She also sang "Return to Me" with fellow Japanese cast members Yuta Koseki, Rio Suzuki, and Sonim.
After performing the two songs, Yabiku said with a smile, "It's lonely to sing alone, so I personally had a lot of fun singing together." Koseki said about "Return to Me," which the four performed together, "The story starts with this song, so I'm sure you'll get goosebumps when you hear it in the movie." Suzuki tried rapping for the first time in this film. She said she was confused when she received the sheet music, but after practicing so much that she realized she could hum along, she said she was able to sing it without tripping over it, and added, "It was difficult, so please pay attention to it." Sonim revealed that she sang a song called "Maybe" in the film, and introduced it as a deep song that says, "Being lost is what helps you see another path."
"Moana 2" is the sequel to the previous film "Moana" made in 2016. Moana has been spending time with her family and friends, but after learning a legend that "if she reaches an island at the end of the sea, the curse will be lifted," she decides to go on a dangerous voyage to regain her bond. The film depicts her embarking on another adventure with Maui, the demigod who she adventured with in the previous film, and new friends.
At the Japan premiere, Moana fan guests such as Wakatsuki Chinatsu, Matsui Rena, Watanabe Miyuki, Peco, chay, and the comedy duo "Elf" also appeared at the photo call.
