It has been revealed that actor Yosuke Eguchi will star in the drama series "Drama W: Someone in This Town" (WOWOW), which will start on December 8th. This will be Eguchi's first lead role in a drama series in about four years since "Request to an Angel: The Last Wish in Life" (NHK), and he will be reprising his role as a ninja parent and child in "The House of the Shinobi" (Netflix).

The original work is the novel of the same name (Kodansha), which was the first work by Hiromi Sano after winning the Edogawa Rampo Prize in 2020 and caused a stir. Set in a newly developed residential area where a brutal kidnapping and murder case once occurred, the story is a social mystery that vividly and vividly depicts the fear caused by the "conformity pressure" that swirls among the residents. This is the first time that one of Sano's novels has been made into a drama series. The script will be written by Maekawa Yoichi, known for "W Series: The Magnificent Clan" and "W Series: The Unbroken Sun," and the director will be Sato Yuichi, known for "City Hunter" (Netflix) and "Strawberry Night" (Fuji TV).

Eguchi will play the protagonist, Masaki Yuichi, an investigator at a law firm. He used to work as a secretary for a politician, but he was forced to participate in the creation of illicit funds, and while he was suffering, he lost his daughter to suicide, which left him with deep emotional pain and regret. The highlight of the story will be seeing how Masaki changes as he meets an honest girl who is desperately searching for her family and pursues the truth for her.

Maki Mochizuki, played by Makida, was separated from her parents as a baby and grew up in a children's home. With a note as her guide, she visits the law firm where Masaki works and asks for his help in finding her family. As Masaki's partner, she visits the town where he once lived with his family, and learns of a boy's kidnapping and murder that occurred in the town in the past.

"Drama W: Someone in This Town" will be broadcast and streamed on WOWOW every Sunday at 10pm from December 8th. There are 4 episodes in total.

◇Eguchi Yosuke's comment

I decided to appear in the drama because of the powerful script and the enthusiasm of Director Sato (Yuichi) and Producer Aoki (Yasuhisa).

This work is a social mystery that depicts the fear of groups and favoritism. I think it will be interesting if viewers can feel the fragility of humans, whose problems in society can lead to murder.

The character I play, Masaki, is a person who is desperately trying to live despite the painful experience of losing his daughter, so I tried to erase my own personality and preferences when playing the role. The work is well-written as a novel, so I struggled with the long lines, but I tried to act in a way that would not bore the viewers. I hope you will watch until the end.

◇Comment from Aju Makita

I appeared in the "W Drama Series" once when I was in elementary school, and when I was offered this role, I felt happy and humbled that I was now an adult. When I first read the script, I was engrossed in the fact that behind the excitement of solving the mystery, the characters' conflicts were depicted, and I was constantly being asked, "What would you do?" It was a frightening story that stirred my emotions, and I read on with fascination.

The events that take place in "This Town" could happen close to home, in someone's town, workplace, or school. I would be happy if the thoughts of the main characters can inspire courage in the viewers.
