The new cast of the NHK Taiga drama "To You, Shining" (General TV, Sunday 8pm and others), starring Yoshitaka Yuriko, was announced on the drama's official X (formerly Twitter), and it was revealed that Asa Tatsumi will play Prince Atsuakira.

Prince Atsuakira is the son of Emperor Sanjo. He loves hunting and has an active personality. He was destined to become the Crown Prince later, but his maternal relatives were weak and he had no guardian. He was under pressure from Michinaga, who wanted his grandson to become the Crown Prince.

Asa said, "Appearing in a Taiga drama has been a big dream of mine ever since I decided to become an actor, so when I was confirmed to appear in "To You, Shining", I was filled with joy that I can't put into words."

"In actual history, Prince Atsuakira is portrayed as a troublemaker, but in this script, he is straightforward and surprisingly vulnerable, making him a very human and charming character. I will do my best to portray how he lives his life, which was not all shining, together with Emperor Sanjo and his mother, Shoshi," he said.

"To You, Who Shines" is the 63rd taiga drama. Set in the aristocratic society of the mid-Heian period, the protagonist is Murasaki Shikibu (Mahiro), who later wrote "The Tale of Genji," said to be the oldest novel written by a woman in the world. The script was written by Oishi Shizuka, who is writing her second taiga drama since "Koumyou ga Tsuji" in 2006, and depicts the glittering world of Heian aristocrats and the life of a woman who lived, wrote, and loved with all her heart.
