The film is based on the non-fiction essay "My Brother's End" by author Michiko Murai, and is written by director Nakano, known for films such as "Hot Water" and "Asada Family!". It tells the story of a family's hectic four days, which begins with the sudden death of their estranged brother.
Shibasaki plays the main character, Murai Riko, who has been manipulated since childhood by her selfish and laid-back brother, Odagiri plays the useless brother who manipulates his family, and Mitsushima plays the brother's ex-wife, Kanako.
