The official theatrical trailer for "Kumamoto no Kareshi" (directed by Kumagai Yuki), a coming-of-age film set in the city of Kumamoto as it recovers from the earthquake, about a young man who has given up on his dreams but finds his own hope with the support of those around him, was released on September 3rd.
The film stars Kumamoto-born singer-songwriter Takuya Sugimoto. The heroine is played by Akane Sakanoue, who has been active in films, TV dramas and stage productions, and is also active in her hometown of Kumamoto Prefecture, where she has been appointed as a Kumamoto City Goodwill Ambassador. Other cast members include Saki Fukuda, also from Kumamoto Prefecture, Shoki Morohoshi from "7ORDER," Razor Ramon RG, and Yumecchi from "3ji no Heroine." The theme song is "Dawn Light," written by Sugimoto specifically for the film.
Hifumi Minato (Sugimoto), who works at a travel agency in Kumamoto, is persuaded by his colleague Misaki (Sakanoue) to take part in a music video production project showcasing Kumamoto's famous places and specialties. While initially reluctant, Minato meets Kaori (Fukuda), a former musician and tangerine farmer, while on a research trip for the project. In fact, Kaori was someone Minato had admired since his days as a music enthusiast. Their reunion gradually brings back to life a "dream" that Minato had buried deep in his heart: to become a singer-songwriter. Minato had previously given up singing in public after a certain incident. Carrying that wound, he had sealed away his dream. Learning of Minato's hidden feelings, Misaki gently encourages him to take up the challenge... This is the story.
The film will be released in Kumamoto on October 10th, followed by a nationwide release on the 24th.
