The Japan premiere of the latest animated feature film " Scarlet " (released November 21st), directed by Mamoru Hosoda, known for such works as "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" and " Summer Wars ," was held on November 5th at the Tokyo National Museum (Taito Ward, Tokyo), with an appearance by Mana Ashida, the voice actress for the main character Scarlet. Ashida plays Scarlett, a medieval princess who vows revenge on the enemy who killed her father, and she revealed about the recording, "There were some scenes that I felt I couldn't do without throwing myself into them. Rather than just recording a voice, I felt like I was breathing life into the character."
Ashida said, "Scarlett is 19 years old, and when I first spoke with the director, I thought that a 19-year-old living in modern times and a 19-year-old princess living in the Middle Ages would have different resolves, so I wanted to portray that difference. That was the difficult part," and explained that she prepared for the role by watching works featuring Joan of Arc and Elizabeth I. With the Japan premiere approaching, she expressed her thoughts, "I'm nervous, but also excited, to see how people will react to Scarlett, who I worked so hard to voice."
The event featured voice actors Masaki Okada, Shota Sometani, Mamoru Miyano, Kotaro Yoshida, Yuki Saito, Yutaka Matsushige, and director Hosoda.
Hosoda is the director behind the original story and screenplay for the latest film. After failing to exact revenge on her father's murder, Scarlett once again seeks revenge on her nemesis in the Land of the Dead. The Land of the Dead is a place where if one does not achieve revenge on their nemesis and reach the "endless place," they will become nothing and their existence will disappear, and Scarlett embarks on an endless journey of revenge.
Actress Mana Ashida will voice Scarlett, and Masaki Okada will voice Hijiri, a modern-day Japanese nurse who travels with Scarlett.
