NHK's popular variety show "Bura Tamori" (NHK General), in which entertainer Tamori visits various towns, will air an episode titled "Kyoto Heian Shrine ▼ Born as a symbol of reconstruction! What did it bring to Kyoto?" on June 20th at 7:30 p.m. The setting for this trip is Kyoto's Heian Shrine.
Was Heian Jingu Shrine, established during the Meiji era, part of a grand plan to revitalize the declining Kyoto? We explore the thoughts and intentions behind the shrine buildings, which are reproductions of structures from Heian-kyo, and the magnificent gardens that utilize water from the Lake Biwa Canal.
Furthermore, Tamori tours the town in a rickshaw, unraveling the origins of the trams and cultural facilities that formed the foundation of Kyoto's modernization, and the surprising mechanisms that were key to its recovery. What is the pride of the people of Kyoto that has been passed down through the Jidai Matsuri, one of Kyoto's three major festivals...?
Tamori's travel partner will be NHK announcer Mana Sato, and the narration will be provided by singer-songwriter Aimyon.
