On September 11th, actor Kento Yamazaki appeared at a global fan event for season 3 of the drama "Alice in Borderland," which will begin streaming on the video streaming service Netflix from the 25th.
"Alice in Borderland" is based on the manga of the same name by Haro Aso (Shogakukan). The story follows Arisu Ryohei (Alice), played by Yamazaki, and the heroine Usagi Yuzuha, played by Tao Tsuchiya, as they take on a life-threatening "game" in order to return to their original world.
Yamazaki commented, "When we were doing season 1, I never thought we'd get to season 3, so I'm really happy and honored," and added with a smile, "I'm really happy to be able to create and distribute a series in Japan that people all over the world can enjoy."
Actor Kotaro Daigo, who joined the cast this season, shared an episode from when he first met Yamazaki. "I was nervous to meet Alice because I'd watched seasons 1 and 2. I'm exactly the right age for Kento Yamazaki, and I went to see a lot of romance movies when I was in middle school, so I was nervous as a fan." When he greeted Yamazaki, he said, "He was incredibly frank, saying, 'You're Kotaro Daigo, right? And you play Nobu, Chidori-san!' From there, we became really good friends."
Yamazaki said, "I thought so. It's Daigo, and it's Nobu..." Daigo expressed his gratitude, saying, "That was how it all started, so I was grateful to be able to take part in the filming," to which Yamazaki replied with a wry smile, "Sorry."
Season 3 is set four years after Alice and the Rabbit won all the "games" in Borderland and returned to their original world. The couple were married and living happily ever after, but one day, the Rabbit suddenly disappears, guided by a man named Ryuji (Kento Kaku), who is researching the afterlife. In despair, Banda (Hayato Isomura), who has become a resident of Borderland, appears before Alice and tells her that the Rabbit has returned to Borderland. In order to get the Rabbit back, Alice sets foot into Borderland once again and takes on a life-threatening "game"...
The event was also attended by Tao Tsuchiya, Hayato Isomura, Ayaka Miyoshi, Katsuya Maikuma, Risa Sudo, Hiroyuki Ikeuchi, Tina Tamashiro, Genri, Sakura Kiryu, Kento Kaku, and director Shinsuke Sato.
