The latest Star Wars film in seven years, "The Mandalorian and Glogo" (directed by Jon Favreau), will be released simultaneously in Japan and the US on May 22nd. The day before the release, on May 21st at 7 PM, a special "pre-release" screening will be held in seven theaters across five cities in Japan, allowing viewers to see the new film ahead of time.
The seven theaters showing the film are TOHO Cinemas Hibiya (IMAX, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills (Dolby Atmos, Minato-ku, Tokyo), Lawson United Cinemas STYLE-S Minatomirai (Flex Sound, Nishi-ku, Yokohama), TOHO Cinemas Umeda (Dolby Atmos, Kita-ku, Osaka), Midland Square Cinema (Dolby Cinema, Nakamura-ku, Nagoya), Lawson United Cinemas Sapporo (IMAX, Chuo-ku, Sapporo), and United Cinemas Canal City 13 (IMAX, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka). The screenings will begin simultaneously at 7 PM on May 21st. Tickets will go on sale from midnight on May 14th.
A special poster will be given to attendees of the pre-release event. The poster, which was unveiled on May 4th, "Star Wars Day," features the Mandalorian and Glogoo, as well as Jabba the Hutt's son Lotta and the Hutt twins (Hut Sister and Hutt Brother).
Director Favreau says his life changed dramatically when he first saw "Star Wars: A New Hope (Episode IV)" in a movie theater at the age of 10. With a special desire to pass on the感動 (deep emotion) he experienced as a child to the next generation, he created this film with a deep appreciation for the "experience" of "Star Wars" in a movie theater.
Director Favreau said, "This is a film that can be enjoyed whether you've seen 'Star Wars' or not. When 'A New Hope' was released, even though no one knew anything about the world, the audience in the theaters was thrown into the story the moment the opening crawl finished. But the audience wasn't left behind. Because the characters are so powerful and mythical, the audience was able to immediately immerse themselves in the world and enjoy it together. We are conscious of that aspect of 'Star Wars,' and fortunately Mando (the Mandalorian) and Glogu have that power." He expressed confidence that this is a Star Wars film that anyone can enjoy, even first-time viewers.
The film "Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Glogo" is set five years after the death of Darth Vader and the fall of the Empire. In a lawless galaxy, the Mandalorian, a solitary bounty hunter who perfectly completes every job while adhering to strict rules under the motto "Our Way," gradually develops a father-son-like bond with Glogo, the mischievous and gluttonous "The Child," who possesses immense Force powers, during their journey together. "He'll outlive me. I can't protect him forever..." The story follows these two bound by an unbreakable bond as they confront destiny to prevent a new war aimed at the resurgence of the Empire.
